The purpose of the Bixby Knolls Business Improvement Association is to promote the interests of its professional, service and retail members, to enhance the common areas within the BIA area, to facilitate the exchange of business information and ideas, and to promote the highest business and ethical standards.

BKBIA History and Structure

The BKBIA is a nonprofit organization of over 800 business that was founded in 1989 by the Long Beach City Council at the request of local businesses. It was incorporated in 1994 as a 501(c)6 nonprofit. Each business in the District is assessed annually by the City of Long Beach and these funds are then returned to the BKBIA for activities focused on revitalization, promotion, street aesthetics, and security. The association is governed by an elected eleven member Board of Directors and association work is accomplished through voluntary committees working with an Executive Director and part time staff.

Retail Businesses $185 Plus $4.25 per Employee
Service Businesses $165 Plus $3.25 per Employee
Professional Businesses $135 Plus $2.25 per Employee

The BKBIA Business District encompasses the area bounded on the south by the 405 Freeway, bounded on the east by Atlantic Avenue, bounded on the west by Long Beach Boulevard. Atlantic Avenue is bounded on the north by Del Amo Boulevard and by 44th Street on Long Beach Boulevard.

The BKBIA Board

The association is governed by an elected 11 member volunteer Board of Directors. Directors are elected for two year terms and may serve three consecutive terms. Directors are elected from different areas of the district with three from both Atlantic Avenue and Long Beach Boulevard, two Directors from the Wardlow Road area, two Directors are At Large and one Director from the Bixby Knolls Shopping Center.

The BIA also works with local newspapers to secure opportunities for cooperative advertising. The newspapers will put together a Bixby Knolls feature offering a discounted advertising rate to BIA members.

Special Events

The BIA produces several special events each year including Community Happy Hours, Dragster Expo and Car Show, First Fridays Long Beach, Business Tools Seminars and our street fairs – Bixby Knolls Street Fair and Snow in Bixby Knolls.  The success of the events is dependent upon the support of BIA members. There are opportunities to promote your business at the events on a variety of levels, the most visible being an event sponsor.

The BIA also produces Business Tools Seminars throughout the year with topics designed to help you grow, improve and sustain your business. Please take advantage of these seminars, most are free of charge to our members (occasionally, there is a materials charge).
