First Fridays Long Beach

The mission of First Fridays is to promote and support local artists and musicians by providing them with an outlet to showcase their work. Every first Friday night of the month, participating Bixby Knolls businesses will unite to promote local artists and musicians through extended operating hours. In doing so we hope to encourage a dialogue between businesses, artists and the community.

The August 1 First Fridays had great highlights including the new First Fridays trolley sponsored by Councilwoman Rae Gabelich. Expect to see the trolley the next 3 months cruising up and down Atlantic taking people from venue to venue. The Windy Ridge Bluegrass Band even hopped on and entertained folks along for the ride. The first ever meeting of the Long Beach Press Club brought 50 local journalists to Nino's Italian Restaurant to compare notes and swap stories about their craft. Nino's was in non-stop motion just coming off their 50th Anniversary Celebration the day before and then played host to First Fridays. New venues, Rickter & Associates and Hensle Acupunture, added to the energy of the night. More businesses have committed to participating next month. September 5, 2008 The Bixby Knolls Business Improvement Association will be bringing back Mike The Poet to ride the trolley and perform his street-beat-science-dropping poems for everyone.
